AST was formed in 2014 to realize non-existent, or otherwise hetereodox circuitry for installations as well as performance tools for artists and musicians on a sliding scale fee and repairs below market rate. Conceptually AST exists as a manufacturer of circuits operating outside the norms of music production and in the realms of indeterminacy, analog computation, polemics, and historical instruments. the following are commercially available.
sondollodnos (2020)
Reconstruction of the Sondol device used by Alvin Luicer for Vespers (1967): Hand-held pulse oscillators designed for “ boat owners, acoustic engineers, and the blind.” photo by Gi Ahn.
The Demon Brothers (2019)
Module designed to replicate Mick Jagger’s soundtrack to Kenneth Anger’s Invocation of my Demon Brother (1969). Dual Saw Wave & White Noise generator with momentary control. Designed for Scott Benzel’s Prelude and Coda to ‘Invocation’, Invocation of my Demon Brother/Another Movie, Kenneth Anger/Morgan Fisher,
Self-Transforming Machine Elf Generator (2024)
Realization of the “audio versions of Terrence McKenna’s “Self-Transforming Machine Elves.”” for Joe Potts. The module contains a wave mutliplier, multimode filter, pitch shifter, and multi mode digital delay all with theit own dedicated loe pass gate. Four different random event (elves) are simutlaneasuly generated by a single clock source, which the elves can also fed back in for asynchronous behavior. each function can be affected positicely or negativley by the elves, or by the neighbroing devices themselves. the four modules are chained via normal jacks, to allow for a long chain of precessing. with no input source, white npise cna be sent into the modules. crucially, each module can be switched to self-oscillate. AST Accursed Shared System (2024)
a series of 16 modules offering competing philosophies of indeterminacy, analog computation, wave synthesis, and drivers. Designed with and against the history of electonic instruments; the accursed shared system is driven by random event generators, cellular automata, an EEG headband, FM synthesis, logic gates, a drum machine, Raudive Diode, infrared & air quality sensors, as well as motor, laser, and solenoid drivers. The instrument is designed to form self evolving non-deterministic sounds and patterns as well as process and drive external sources through manual, and self-generated means.
