Closely

Closely is a series of litigiously motivated compositions produced via appropriation and reformulation of works by composers who represent a: countercultural importance, radical social image, and/or rugged individualism. The composers in the series by direct or indirect action have in one way or another succumbed to the contemporary complications of a “maverick” as one who preserves outdated hierarchies and ultimately a conservative force complicating their historical/social legacy. Authorial Hubris is matched and amplified via reexamination by the performers.

The pieces in the series are performed “closely” enough in pitch in order to manipulate otoacoustic phenomenon to generate pitches, rhythms, and compositional concepts not present in the source material. The sources undergo a total reduction to ascertain any potential of quality post-separation of art and artist,
